Back From My Deviant Hiatus

Every now and then I take a breaks from deviantart. I've been working like mad at the portrait artist job these last several months. I've been quite distracted, but I'm returning now.

Feature and Show in Norfolk May 2nd

The contrast between the seemingly thrown together watercolor stains and the neat, precise border is lovely.

One of the reasons I started following Kisssooo One of those pieces that makes you feel something on a soul level.

Those tiny little pink hands are so expressive.

In other news, I'll be showing work and doing live art the Spring Loaded Arts And Music Festival in Norfolk, Virginia. If you're in the area please come check it out. There will be live music as well as art. I'll be there Sunday, May 2nd.

I also had a lovely picnic yesterday since it's already so beautiful down here in Virginny. I'm a Pennsylvania native. The warm weather doesn't usually seep into the atmosphere until around April. The boyfriend is a poet. I've been wanting to collaborate with him for a while. So yesterday we took a blanket, colored pencils, a notebook, and a sketchbook, picked up some sushi and a bottle of wine, and got lost in the woods. He read poetry and free-wrote while I found lines that really struck me, and I sketched the imagery that came to mind. I'll be posting images soon.

A few weeks ago I found a ad for a job dream. Nothing too glamorous, but a step in the right direction to make my fantasies come true- a job getting paid to make art. It was a few states away from where I am, but I took the risk. Within a few days I recieved a call in response to my application. Last weekend I carted my portfolio and my best sunday dress to the interview. There was a copy- this- xeroxed- design- in sharpie sort of challenge, and a 3 minute minute sketch challenge. The first one I nailed. The latter could have been improved, but wasn't horrible for a 3 minute sketch on the fly. My interviewer was also impressed with this quick portrait I had completed the day before the interview of Amanda Palmer heartshapedscarz.deviantart.co…
And today I received an email telling me that I've made it to the second "audition" round. I'm not hired, but I made it to the next step! So from now until Saturday afternoon I'll be practicing like mad. If you have a good photo you'd like turned into a pastel portrait note me and I'll give you my email address. I'll let you know if I use your photo, and if I do I'll be posting it here on Deviantart as well as my art blog www.kirstenashley.blogspot.com
